A Moment in Black Herstory Month: The Reverend Pauli Murray

For the first Sunday in Black History Month, we celebrate Pauli Murray, the first African American female ordained in the Episcopal Church. A non-gender conforming, Civil Rights attorney, poet, and co-founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Pauli is celebrated as a saint in the Episcopal Church.

While we doubt that she will ever get her full due for the significant role that she played in the Southern Freedom Movement, we will always celebrate her for demanding that Black brothers give attention to the plight of Black women in this country.
